For friday, type up your essay with your intro, three body sections and an attempt at a conclusion. The essay will be typed double spaced.

For next class: a hard copy of your intro if you emailed it to me.

AND

A rough draft of the body section on situational archetypes. The body section will probably be one paragraph but can be more. It will probably be a page to two pages. Follow the SEEES paragraph format. Your topic sentence will be "The situational archetype present in Star Wars help classify it as a modern myth." You will want to remind your readers that Joseph Campbell wrote about the Hero's Quest.

This is a rough draft but should still be typed and double spaced.

The rubric for the myth article paragraph is also up there.

Homework: you must EMAIL you paragraph to Mr.Cohen when he told you (different deadlines for different classes). Be sure to include MLA format info (ie. Your name and course section ex. ENG 1D7-02)

1. How does a myth differ from a normal story?

2. Has technology inspired new mythology?

Write a triple burger SEEES paragraph for both.

Also, look up "orientalism". Who coined the term? What does it mean?

Your homework for next class is to read the Times Article (go to our class website to download).

You also have to write two SEEEEEES paragraph. One on war: is war necessary or not. The second one should explain why a celebrity represents the characteristics of a certain god from your list of gods and celebrities. Do ONE paragraph on ONE celebrity ONLY.

Look up the artist Banksy. Just for interest's sake.

One more reminder...
You also have the mythology celebrity sheet to hand in next class. Find YOUR OWN picks to identify which celebrities would represent the list of gods you were given in class and mount their pictures on an 8x11 sheet.

Your homework is posted on our class website under the mythology tab. You are required to finish the "Greek Mythology Skit" and the "Myth Online Article".

Read both mythology stories that were handed out in class. Take notes on the stories (using double entry journal method or another note-taking style of your choosing). Include in your notes ONE sentence of summary and ONE sentence of universal meaning. Due next class.

For next class:

Research the following info on the Olympian god you were assigned in class.
- what is your god the god of
- symbols associated with your god
- relations to your god (other gods)
- two interesting facts/stories about your god

You will be presenting this info next class.

Brand Creation Story: you are assigned a brand in class. Write a 2-3 page creation story. Typed, double spaced, MLA format.

Your story should involve the creation of earth or humanity, and should involve gods or divine beings.

You also have to create a picture on 8x11 paper to show what your mythical word looks like. You can do collages, comic style, etc.

Rubrics given out next class.

Due next week: Tuesday or Wednesday depending when I have you.

Short story test on Monday and Tuesday respectively. Please have paper and pens, as well as all your double entry journals out of your binders. Good luck!

Day of the Butterfly assignment due on Tuesday before Tamakwa.
1. Each group of three must hand in ONE assignment. Your group is responsible for submitting three content, three personal response and three analytical questions and answers. Each person in the group will write one question for each section. Your analytical response will include at least one reference with page number to support your answer.

This assignment will be MLA, typed and double-spaced.

Content is worth two marks each.
Personal Response us worth 9 marks each.
Analytical is worth 15 marks each.
